Remote Frontend Engineering Manager
📍 Remote
About this Role:
As our Frontend Engineering Manager, you’ll bring a strong background in either React Native or frontend web technology (preferably both) and experience as an engineering manager who has supported production code with an active user base. You will come from companies that have a hybrid content/media and technology footprint and strategy (ex. Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Khan Academy, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, etc.).
You will need a trust-engendering style of communicating with engineers and stakeholders, a commitment to our cross-disciplinary model of planning and execution, and the ability to lead people in a hybrid remote environment. You can judge both code performance and user experience. You also possess an openness to understanding BibleProject’s content and paradigm for approaching the Bible so that you can help us achieve our mission.
Most importantly, you will bring your skills and experience to help further our mission of helping people experience the Bible as unified story that leads to Jesus.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading a team of engineers (including QA) on our App squad and frontend web technology engineers in other squads.
- Supporting the overall people function of our engineering team, serving as the coach and advocate, and partnering with the other engineering managers and Product Engineering leadership in hiring software engineers.
- Collaborating with Product Engineering and Squad leaders across disciplines who both report to you and those that are cross-functional individudal contributors who do not.
- Responsible for work delivered by the engineers that you serve across our App, Web, and Classroom squads.
- Leading a biweekly team meeting for your direct reports as well as investing in other engineering culture-building activities.
- Growing a technical command of our mobile architecture and its related services (React Native + GraphQL) as well as our web architecture (a combination of web components, React, and Redux interacting with our unified GraphQL services).
What we are looking for
- 5+ years of experience as a part of a cross-functional team delivering production code at scale, demonstrating increasing levels of leadership.
- 3+ years of experience working in a mobile and/or web product that served at least tens of thousands of weekly active users (Note: BibleProject’s existing App and Web audience is several orders of magnitude larger).
- 2+ years of professional background as either a technical project lead or engineering manager, working on a multi-layered architecture.
- High EQ and empathy, demonstrated in a referenceable history of former colleagues.
- A commitment to performance, security, and reliability as critical components in delivering outstanding user experience.
- An understanding of BibleProject’s content, paradigm, and educational goals.
- A desire to shape and belong to a team with a noble mission and culture.
