Remote Software Development Intern

Salary Range:
$23.00 To 23.00 Hourly

Description: 
Seeking a software development intern, someone studying computer science in college, or having undergone coding bootcamps in equivalency to a junior/senior level in college. 
 
Technology:
Our primary technology focus is TypeScript/JavaScript, React/NextJs, AWS Lambda, and other AWS serverless infrastructure.
 
Internship Purpose:
The Software Development Intern will help develop digital products that facilitate digital scripture distribution, translation, and engagement. This includes:
  1. Assist in maintaining existing software solutions
  2. Assist in developing new software solutions 
This is a remote internship for highly motivated, passionate, students to join our team to learn and experience our work and mission. The internship is anticipated to require about 20 hours per week.
 
Key Functions:
  • Deliver well-tested scalable code that meets specified requirements by developing high-quality code, providing feedback during code reviews, and implementing feedback during code reviews.
  • Participate in regular agile meetings (Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Plannings, and Sprint Retrospective).
 
Essential Skills & Traits:
  • Passion for the Bible cause and the Bible’s power to transform lives.
  • Strong belief in the mission of American Bible Society.
  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript.
  • Ability to work in an independent remote environment.
  • Ability to provide respectful constructive feedback and willingness to incorporate feedback from others.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via both oral and written means.
  • Understanding of REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
 
Other Possible Skills & Traits are a Plus:
  • Experience writing software that leverages traditional databases.
  • Experience writing software leveraging NoSQL databases.
  • Experience writing serverless functions such as AWS Lambda.
  • Experience developing with React or React-based frameworks.
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as jest, selenium, or cypress.
  • Experience with CI/CD (continuous integration / continuous development).
  • Experience with AWS serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, DynamoDb, S3, etc.
  • Experience with iterative agile software development methodologies like Scrum.
  • Experience building REST or GraphQL APIs.
 
Education & Training:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science related field, with status as a junior or senior. 
  • Equivalent Bachelor’s degree progress such as coding bootcamp(s) may be considered. 
 
Requirements:
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required
  • Must be current college student or have completed coding bootcamps
  • Detail oriented
  • Available to work during standard office hours in their time zone, with at least 4 hours overlap with Eastern time:        M-F 8:30 AM-5PM

Digital Bible Lab Purpose
The Software Development Intern will join the Digital Bible Lab team at American Bible Society. We work with a vast network of global partners to remove barriers to Scripture access by developing and supporting amazing technology. The team's work is heavily focused on the Habakkuk 2:14 vision which is central to American Bible Society’s calling and purpose: that “the earth would be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
 
Starting with this guiding vision, the Digital Bible Lab is a distributed team that works with a global network of partners (domestic and international) to develop the strategies, methods, and tools that move us closer to a world in which everyone on the planet can experience the Gospel hope found in God’s Word.
