Remote Website Generalist

The Position

Church Media Squad is looking for a Web Generalist to join our growing Squad.  At Church Media Squad, we exist to make church media better by helping local church ministries with graphic and video production, communication and social strategy, website strategy, and full-scale branding.

Our new Web Generalist will design, build, and optimize websites, crafting Figma mockups and transforming them into responsive, user-friendly sites. Working with the Website Director, they’ll develop seamless WordPress and Squarespace builds while managing daily maintenance and ongoing site improvements in line with modern web best practices.

The Web Generalist position is a full-time, hourly role, with an expectation of up to 40 hours/week.

All Church Media Squad employees work completely remotely. Full-time employees receive a company computer after their first six weeks. Church Media Squad is an Apple-only environment.

Church Media Squad is based out of Salt Lake City, UT. The state of Utah has the lowest percentage of Christians in the country with the Salt Lake Valley having less than 5% who consider themselves part of the Christian faith. Our Founder’s goal and hope is to be part of God's transformative movement in the Salt Lake Valley by making our base of operations here and helping church plants in Salt Lake valley.

Qualifications:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing website creation and a range of designs.
  • Required Proficiency with:
    • Figma, Sketch, or Adobe CC
    • WordPress or Webflow
    • Squarespace 7.1
    • UX/UI Design Principles
    • HTML & CSS
  • Preference will be given to applicants with additional proficiency in:
    • SEO
    • Bricksbuilder.io (for WordPress)
    • Web-based programming languages (Javascript, PHP, etc.)
    • CSS Frameworks (Bootstrap, Foundation, Intuit, etc.)
    • Google Analytics
    • DNS management
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and multitask to meet strict deadlines
  • Adaptability to change the direction of a project at a moment's notice
  • Comfortable working as a team with the ability to clearly convey ideas and solutions to problems and projects
  • Must submit a portfolio link with the application. Please include examples of code in the portfolio.
  • We are particularly interested in applicants with experience working for a church. This firsthand experience enables us to serve better the church staff we collaborate with daily.

Responsibilities:

  • Website Design: Design custom, responsive, SEO-optimized websites for our Squad Churches (our clients) based on the provided site strategy.
  • Website Development: Build and optimize Squarespace and WordPress (via Bricks Builder) websites according to Figma design files and development notes, ensuring that all websites meet best practices in responsiveness, speed, and SEO.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Website Director and other Squad members to ensure the successful translation of design concepts into fully functional websites.
  • Code Quality: Ensure high-quality, maintainable, and standards-compliant code that is optimized for performance across all devices and platforms.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively troubleshoot issues related to site functionality and collaborate with the Web Squad to resolve technical challenges.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients directly to gather feedback on milestone deliverables, ensuring that revisions are made to meet expectations and project goals.
  • Time Management: Plan and execute complex web design/development projects, ensuring all deadlines are met and that sites are launched smoothly.
  • Post-Launch Support: Provide ongoing website upkeep and support through our support request system.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest design and development tools, best practices, and emerging web technologies to ensure we’re always ahead of the curve.

Other Details:

  • Reports to Website Director (department lead).
  • TheSquad will purchase a computer for you upon your start date.
  • Higher internet speeds are helpful for this position!
  • This is a full-time, W2 employee position with a starting pay range of $26.44 – $28.85 per hour. Pay is dependent on location and experience.
  • United States employees also receive full coverage of healthcare premium cost.
