Director of IT

Role purpose | The Director of IT leads our Technology Services department which, as part of our Group Professional Services team, serves the four entities (charities) within the HTB Group. The role will play a key part in ensuring fit-for-purpose, robust, scalable and secure technology platforms and infrastructure that support the delivery of services and the strategic vision, aims and objectives of the Group.
Key deliverables | Listed below are the key elements that the role holder will be responsible for and accountable for delivering:

Strategy and planning
• Help shape and implement the HTB Group (HTBG) vision as a member of the senior leadership team;
• In close collaboration with the entity heads and HTB Group Professional Services Leadership, sets the strategic direction for the Technology Services team. Develops and implements creative Technology strategies that align with the vision and the needs of each entity and the group as a whole, ensuring that HTB Group continues to be innovative and forward-thinking with respect to Technology practice across the full spectrum of IT specialisms;
• Provide strategic leadership to the Technology Services Team, leading and overseeing the technology services function and developing and implementing IT strategies that align with the vison and the needs of each entity and the group as a whole; and
• Direct the development and improvement of a strategic technical architecture for HTBG IT, focusing on simplicity, efficiency and effectiveness. In particular, progressively integrate the current disparate systems, domains, databases and networks currently in use across HTBG.

Team management
• Lead the Technology Services team through a time of change and rebuilding, adopting a consultative, coaching approach and identifying the capabilities and potential of each team member in on order to maximise their skills and job satisfaction and advise on the future shape of the team.

IT Infrastructure
• Oversee the management of systems technology and hardware requirements throughout HTBG, including but not limited to access security systems, on-site and remote computing, communications, hosting, and audio/visual broadcast applications.

Data
• Ensure the HTBG has robust and compliant data management processes;
• Contribute to implementation of data management policies and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory and best-practice requirements;
• Ensure HTBG has suitable systems to ensure data is retained and managed securely;
• Oversee training for staff in data management processes and policies, including , where relevant effectiveness of data management tools; and
• Oversee data management to ensure that data is accurate, coherent, and timely across all HTBG’s business systems, and is used to provide effective business intelligence for managers at all levels across the Charity.

Security & Business continuity
• Responsible for Cyber security across the HTBG, ensuring all key assets protected with security commensurate with the risk posed;
• Ensure staff are fully kept aware of evolving threat landscape through training/awareness initiatives;
• Implement and manage appropriate internal group wide governance groups or forums that coordinates security activities across entities and functions; and
• Direct the development and testing of a business continuity plan for the IT department and IT disaster recovery plans for HTBG. Manage the safety and security of HTBG’s data, including ensuring effective backup and replication processes.

Digital platforms and innovation
• Ensure efficacy of back-end digital infrastructure requirements including, but not limited to web hosting, applications, social media, user access;
• Advise on any opportunities for digital projects to enhance the effectiveness of HTBG – through new applications, delivery of content, and alternative means of engaging with people; and
• Consult with entity-specific digital teams to assess the requirements to ensure a secure, stable and accessible high-end user experience.

Supplier management
• Manage supplier relationships as required. In particular, act as key contact for Managed Service Provider (MSP) to facilitate an effective working relationship, whilst holding the supplier to account for compliance with contractual arrangements and developing a successful strategic partnership to mutual advantage; and
• Work with MSP to direct the delivery of professional IT service desk processes to provide effective customer support consistent with best practice within the sector. Look to deliver service to appropriate 3rd party standards certification levels, such as ITIL, within an agreed timescale.

Project and quality management
• Direct the development of a Quality Management system for IT, including change management, problem management and incident management processes and procedures, and high quality documentation in accordance with best practice within the sector; and
• Manage projects using professional methodologies consistent with best practice within the sector such as Agile. Support improvement of project management generally across HTBG by providing support and advice as required.

Essential skills, experience & knowledge | The following skills and experience form the minimum requirements for the role:
• Personal alignment with HTB Group vision and values and strong Christian faith;
• Industry/ domain expert with 10+ years leadership experience in technology and information systems;
• Strong project management skills and familiarity with project management methodologies;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships;
• A strategic thinker with the ability to set ambitious targets, but also with the ability to take their teams with them in the delivery of those targets;
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills;
• Good financial acumen and a strong sense of stewardship and ability to work closely with Group Finance leaders in setting and overseeing the individual team and overall budgets;
• Excellent team leader with a coaching style of leadership;
• Demonstrable experience in advising on systems technology and data solutions; and
• Skilled at identifying issues and opportunities where systems and technology solutions can add value to the operational effectiveness of the organisation.

Desirable skills, experience & knowledge | The following skills and experience would be greatly beneficial:
• Experience in a church or charity context;
• Change management experience;
• Able to thrive in sometimes ambiguous and dynamic operating environment;
• Strong diplomacy skills with the ability to hold the line when necessary but equally to understand when there is a need for pragmatism;
• Able to influence the agenda and outcomes; and
• Experience in working across borders and cultures.
